		The troop was recruited to be a full regiment in the winter of 1642/3, making up part of the Eastern Association under the earl of Manchester.
		Cromwell gained experience and victories in a number of successful actions in East Anglia and then at the major Battle of Marston Moor and the indecisive second Battle of Newbury.
