 John Stanley MP
Sir John is the MP for the constituency within which Bob and Heather Gray live, Bob has raised the issues concerning the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, with his MP what follows is a complete account of that correspondence Bob has had with his MP and the Chief Executive of the Trust Steven Collinson.
Significantly, I consider that it is shifting the balance of the Trust from one that was roughly evenly judged between Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone, to predominantly one where the centre of gravity of the Trust is at Maidstone and this process is gathering pace.
I am writing in response to your letter of 25 November addressed to Sir William Wells and copied to three Members of Parliament.

 Boundary Commission for England
To bring the electorates of Maidstone and the Weald CC and Tunbridge Wells CC closer to the county average and electoral quota, the Commission also propose to transfer the Tunbridge Wells Borough ward of Hawkhurst and Sandhurst from Maidstone and the Weald CC to Tunbridge Wells CC.
The Commission do not divide wards between constituencies and their proposals will realign the constituency boundaries with the new ward boundaries, so that all the new wards are placed wholly within constituencies.
The Secretary of State has a statutory duty to lay the Commission's report before Parliament together with a draft Order in Council giving effect to the Commission’s recommendations with or without modifications.

A constituency which effectively only concerned itself with the town and possibly a small rural fringe would have very different interests from that of the Borough Council as a whole and I think it would seriously break the tie which there has always been between the urban and the rural in the Maidstone area.
The Member of Parliament, although he was opposing it, said that he has very much enjoyed serving these communities and would happily continue to do so if they remain within the boundaries of the constituency and if he is elected to serve it.
No change in the number of constituencies we believe is very important because, at the last review, there was an extra seat when it went from 16 to 17 and, on that occasion, there was considerable change and disruption and we believe that is a very important factor.

Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield
In Parliament, Disraeli became known for his defense of the protectionismprotectionist Corn Laws, in opposition to fellow Conservative Sir Robert Peel's advocacy to repeal the laws, which Disraeli denounced as "''laissez-faire/'' capitalism".
Though he initially stood for election, unsuccessfully, as a Whig and Radical, Disraeli was a progressive Tory by the time he won a seat in the House of Commons in 1837 representing the constituency of Maidstone.
The bar on non-Christians sitting in Parliament was lifted after a long struggle, and Rothschild became the first Jewish member of the House of Commons in 1858/, eleven years after first being elected.

BBC News UK Pro-hunt vigil continues
Alongside the new vigil, hunt supporters are planning to picket the constituency offices of James Plaskitt, Labour MP for Warwick and Leamington, who has consistently voted for a ban in the past.
The Maidstone constituency of anti-hunting shadow home secretary Ann Widdecombe, who is passionately in favour of a ban, is also expected to be targeted.
Up to a dozen protestors from marginal constituencies are maintaining a 24-hour presence at the vigil until the vote in an effort to persuade MPs to reconsider their support for a ban.

House of Commons Hansard Debates for 18 Mar 2002 (pt 29)
Member for Maidstone and The Weald was absolutely correct: if Parliament judges that inflicting cruelty and death on an animal for human pleasure is wrong, Parliament will, if given a chance, stop it.
All legislation circumscribes individual freedoms to some degree, whether it is, at one extreme, the freedom to rape or, at another, the freedom to drive at whatever speed we wish.
I want briefly to address some of the arguments, such as they are, that pro-hunters adduce to defend the continuance of their diversion.
