Close to Mt. Mas-ai lies the picturesque Lake Mainit, which is considered as the fourth largest lake in the country with a total land area of 147 square kilometres.

In general, findings of the studies indicate that mercury had actually contaminated the living organisms in Honda Bay and entered the food chain resulting in the presence of high level of mercury in human beings.
Although mercury is a part of natural environment of Puerto Princesa City (in the sense that it forms part of geological formation of PPC), the pollution could be primarily attributed to the mine tailings at the "Mainit Causeway" and the tailing pond inland.
Meanwhile, local legislators are presently studying the possibility of prohibiting any fishing activity within the 3 km radius of the "Mainit Causeway" without economically affecting the local sustenance fisherman who are dependent upon Honda Bay for their livelihood.

Once at Mainit Point I was suddenly towed from about 40 feet to over 70 feet down a steep embankment.
On balance, I think the challenging features of this particular spot are more than offset by the chance to experience the wonderfully diverse variety of its marine life.

In Mainit, we parked the pickup and hiked to Tuasan.
After crossing the Dinangasan River twice, walking through tropical foliage, and passing a nipa hut with piglets and chickens wandering the grounds, we arrived at the 25-meter waterfall.
