Topic: Mainland Europe

Europe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Europe is geologically and geographically a peninsula, forming the westernmost part of Eurasia.
Having lived side-by-side with agricultural and industrial civilisations for millennia, Europe's animals and plants have been profoundly affected by the presence and activities of man. With the exception of Scandinavia and northern Russia, few areas of untouched wilderness are today to be found in Europe, except for different natural parks.
Few corners of mainland Europe have not been grazed by livestock at some point over the millennia, and the cutting down of the pre-agricultural forest habitat caused incalculable disruption to the original plant and animal ecosystems.

Europe is bounded to the north by the Arctic Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea, and to the east by the Ural Mountains and the Caspian Sea (for more detailed description see Geography of Europe).
Following the decline of the Roman Empire, Europe entered a long period of stasis, referred to by Renaissance thinkers as the "Dark Ages" and by the Enlightenment and modern historians, as the Middle Ages.
The southeast boundary with Asia isn't universally defined, with either the Ural or Emba rivers serving as possible boundaries, continuing with the Caspian Sea, and either the Kuma and Manych rivers or the Caucasus mountains as possibilities, and onto the Black Sea; the Bosporus, the Sea of Marmara, and the Dardanelles conclude the Asian boundary.

Europe is a highly fragmented landmass consisting of a number of large peninsulas, such as the Scandinavian, Iberian, and Italian, as well as smaller ones, such as the Kola, Jutland, and Brittany.
Europe has coastlines on arms of the Arctic Ocean and on the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, in the north; on the Caspian Sea, in the southeast; on the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, in the south; and on the Atlantic Ocean, in the west.
The geological underpinning of Europe includes, from north to south, an ancient mass of stable, crystalline rocks; a broad belt of relatively level sedimentary materials; a zone of mixed geological structures created by folding, faulting, and volcanism; and a region of comparatively recent mountain-building activity.

These Celts of continental or mainland Europe are often separated for analytic purposes from the insular Celts of Ireland and Britain.
Most likely, the mainland Celts did not give human form to their gods and goddesses until later in the Iron Age, perhaps in the first or second century B.C. According to Simon James, only a few religious statues have been found dating to the early Celtic period.

Soccer Fans Network Forums - Diving cheating twits from Mainland Europe
Before I start I want to say that I'm dead certain there are plenty honest footballers from Mainland Europe and there are some diving eejits in europe but watching highlight of the recent Sporting lisbon - Benfica match really got my hackles up.
I mean if a club could do with some money through promotion or getting into Europe and some tit dives in the 'box and nicks a penalty in a vital match, that can really screw players careers and the future of not so hot clubs.
The only way for this to change is for FIFA to take a VERY HARD STANCE and fine and penalise players and clubs HEAVILY (four or five figure sums/6 match bans?) over the next twenty years, an entire generation devoted to stem the culture of cheating.
