Results from the independent monitors' group showed that Gojkovic was leading by less than one percentage point in Novi Sad -- making the vote too close to call before official results were announced.
But Novakovic publicly conceded his defeat, congratulating Gojkovic on her victory and thanking her for a "fierce but fair battle."

The second approach is to give the party a more humane face, one that appeals to a domestic base beyond its core constituency of the poor, the uneducated, and the embittered.
This means putting forward such local candidates as Maja Gojkovic, a lawyer from a prominent family who won last year's mayoral race in Novi Sad, Serbia's second- largest city and the capital of the ethnically diverse province of Vojvodina.

Vreme: Ivan Markovic - the new Telecommunications Minister
A rumor has it that the government vice-president "in charge" of Radojevic was Zoran Lilic.
If this kind of distribution of vice presidential duties actually exists this would mean that the new telecommunications minister will be supervised by Radical Party member Maja Gojkovic, or her party comrade Tomislav Nikolic, depending on which one of them has earned Lilic's vice-presidential armchair.
This should not present too much of a burden for any of the above-mentioned people, in view of the more than congenial agreement of the Yugoslav Left with the Serbian Radical Party in all the important issues of complicity in power.
