Barrett also played the character Dr. Julianne Belman in Earth: Final Conflict, which was also created by Gene Roddenberry.

In 1996, while Majel was going through some of Gene's old papers, she came across the pilot and format for a series he had developed in the mid-70s at CBS, which was to become the basis for Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict.
It was Majel's memory of Gene's passion for the project that prompted her to search out creative collaborators to continue her late husband's legacy, and she chose David Kirschner, ALLIANCE ATLANTIS, and Tribune Entertainment to pick up where Gene had left off.
Majel currently lives in Bel Air, in the country-style home she and Gene bought in 1988, designed in the 1930s by the famous California architect Wallace Neff.

 Christine Chapel
Majel studied drama at the University of Miami, and went on to perform in a number of regional theatre productions including All For Mary at the Pasadena Playhouse and The Skin of Our Teeth and Idiots Delight at the Santa Monica Playhouse, and starred in the Broadway production of Solid Gold Cadillac.
Majel has appeared in person or in voice in most of the Star Trek universe; she played the recurring roles of Nurse (Lieutenant) Christine Chapel in Star Trek, as well as Doctor (Commander) Christine Chapel in the feature films, and Ambassador Lwaxana Troi in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Majel was cast in 1966 as the second in command "Number One" of the USS Enterprise, under Captain Christopher Pike, in The Cage, the pilot for Star Trek.

When we recently caught up with Majel Barrett Roddenberry for an early morning chat, she had to pull herself away from watching an interview about one of her favorite shows, Survivor.
It was probably this kind of wicked humor that first attracted Lucille Ball's attention to Majel when, as a young woman, she enrolled in a comedy class given by Ball in 1958.
While many of the dispassionate characteristics that Gene and Majel had created for the character went to Spock, Majel believes that she could have taken the female commander to new places.

Born Majel Lee Hudec in the great state of Ohio, at somepoint in the 20th century, Majel (or Maje as we fans like to call her) shook the dust off her shoes and headed out to California to become a movie star.
Majel?  Oh, she grabbed a couple of great gowns, raided the wig shop, and repeatedly stopped the show as Lwaxana Troi, mother to Counselor Deanna Troi and the woman who put the fear of God into Picard.
Sadly, Gene Roddenberry became ill and passed away in the early 90s.  Majel, ever the resourceful one, reinvented herself as a television producer.  In the mid-90s, she co-produced "Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict" and (true to form) plays a recurring role as the Resistance's Dr. Julianne Belman.

Roddenberry and Barrett began dating, and married in Japan on 6 August 1969, shortly after the series had been cancelled.
Roddenberry's divorce from his first wife had not yet been finalized, so for legal reasons he and Barrett were married again in America on 29 December 1969.
Farther outside the Star Trek universe, Barrett appeared in A Guide to the Married Man with Walter Matthau, Westworld with Yul Brynner, and The Domino Principle with Gene Hackman, but her roles in such films were always tiny.

Over a late dinner with Majel, I observed that after the original STAR TREK, which for the first time presented truly *human* characters, with all their flaws and frailties and bravery and nobility, in a science fiction series, the ball was dropped, and no one picked it up again for years.
Which is why, I'm pleased to announce, Majel Barrett will be appearing as a guest star on BABYLON 5 this coming season...a gesture of support from her, and a gesture of respect from all of us at B5.
Patrick: at Toronto Trek, Majel told an assembled crowd that she felt badly about the misunderstanding, and wanted to call and apologize; she went to either Berman or Pillar to get my number (can't recall now (3v`Wr$dwhich she said)...and told a very funny story of what happened then.
