Men's major golf championships - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Major Championships, often referred to simply as the "Majors", are the four most prestigious annual tournaments in men's professional golf.
The oldest of the majors is The Open Championship, which is often referred to as the "British Open" outside the United Kingdom.
Major championship winners receive the maximum possible allocation of 50 points from the Official World Golf Rankings, which are endorsed by all of the main men's tours, and major championship prize money is official on the three richest regular (ie under-50) golf tours, the PGA TOUR, European Tour and Japan Golf Tour.

Grand Slam (golf) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Grand Slam is taken either as holding the championship of all four of the major championships simultaneously, or by the more strict winning the four major championships of a calendar year.
The term "Grand Slam" was first applied to Bobby Jones' achievement of winning the four major golfing events of 1930: the British Open, the US Open, the United States Amateur Championship and The Amateur Championship.
These shortcomings have been attributed to various concepts: a particular major is just ill-suited to a player's game; the player lacked the ability to fully adapt to that major; and the player experienced just sheer bad luck.
