Major League Soccer (MLS) is the top soccer league in the United States in the American Soccer Pyramid, sanctioned by the professional division of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF or U.S. Soccer), a member of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
MLS was formed on December 17, 1993, in fulfillment of U.S. Soccer's promise to FIFA to establish a "Division One" professional football league in exchange for the staging of the FIFA World Cup USA 1994 in the United States.
However this is a considerable expense to the league, and to provide better facilities as well as to control revenue for the stadium, a major goal of MLS management is to build its own stadiums, which are often called "soccer-specific stadiums".

Major League Soccer 2004 :: Soccerphile
US soccer might still not be getting the international attention a quarter-final finish at the last World Cup merits, but in America it seems increasingly here to stay.
That the majority of good Americans are playing outside America won't be all bad news in the long run as a good national team is vital for the sport as a whole.
Last season's runners-up Chicago Fire have a strong attack headed by US internationals Ante Razov and DaMarcus Beasley and are always strong contenders, as are the LA Galaxy ensconced in their intimate and sold-out stadium.

Major League Soccer Preview 2005 :: Soccerphile
However, US soccer fans have adamantly demanded the game that the rest of the world plays and at least MLS have responded by ditching 'Americanisms' such as a down-counting clock, pervasive announcers and the dreadful 35-yard line shootout to decide tied matches, which it inflicted on the public at the league's inception back in 1996.
There are still the play-offs however to decide the league champions although the addition of two more sides this year gives them more credibility, with now four instead of only two teams facing elimination after the 32-game regular season finishes.
By then the majority of teams will be playing in purpose-built 20,000-30,000 seat homes from which they will be earning income, instead of paying often exorbitant rents as tenants to NFL landlords.

 IGN: FIFA Soccer 2002 Review
Someone at the company must have been paying attention, because FIFA Soccer 2002 is the biggest evolution that we've yet seen in the series and most of the changes seemed geared towards pleasing those begging for a more realistic soccer simulation.
The one foreseeable problem with both the passing and shooting that the soccer simulation fans will not like is that the ball physics still seem a little too scripted and the ball still has the tendency to magnetize itself to the player's feet.
The things they say are pretty in tune with what's going on in the current match and they'll actually comment about specific stuff in the game, such as whether or not the shot was the player's first or if he had missed a few earlier.
