MCN: 15 Weeks of Summer: Week Three
If your movie needs to have nips and tucks made later than normal, there is only one way to handle it if you want to keep the press from pouncing… take the heat.
Studios have lost the interest or ability to build potential assets into tangible assets, more likely to expend energies fighting off negative attacks, when in fact there is no way to put the evil genie back in the bottle.
When a studio withdraws trust on one movie out of fear, but expects to return to the same level of respect afterwards, they are expecting something from a media person that they would never demand of themselves.

What he wants to see are two different types of studios, possibly a large studio in the ilk of Warner Brothers and a smaller independent studio, but he is drawing a line with two.
A well-developed studio, he said, could bring 700 to 1,000 jobs, not to mention "spin-off" employment - surrounding businesses, such as restaurants and retailers, will likely require more staff to meet the needs of the new studio workers and tourists that will eventually make their way to Rio Rancho.
Studios also require large amounts of lumber and other building materials for their constantly changing sets, he said.

The first movie studio in the Hollywood area was Nestor Studios, opened in 1911 by Al Christie for David Horsley.

Movie Compound Feature - Keeping it Reel #1 - Digital Filmmaking
Persuading a distributor to exhibit your film in cinemas up and down the country without the backing of a major movie studio or some very serious cash is nearly impossible.
What I'm suggesting here is a whole new "movie democracy" where cinemas all over the world show the films of independent moviemakers who cannot afford to have their movie distributed on film, but can afford to send it to the cinema on a DVD disc or even over the Internet.
Of course, any movies shown in the cinema will still be subject to regional/national censorship and certification laws, but removing film from the equation reduces the cost of moviemaking considerably, and does away with the need for a costly distribution deal.

In addition to Steiner Studios, the mayor's office is also supporting Studio City New York, a $375 million "vertical studio" slated for Eleventh Avenue and 45th Street, which aims to be up and running in the next three years, but for now remains in limbo until an anchor tenant surfaces to provide necessary investments.

The saddest thing about this movie is not that it's been neglected, but nobody (at least in the major studios) would make a movie like this today.
It's obvious from the first few minutes that this movie was made by people who not only love making movies, but have a great deal of affection for the horror and science fiction genres.
There are some of the goofiest monsters (and attack sequences) ever to be found in a major studio movie, with the highlight being the climatic monster attack.

Think Secret - Major studios to sit out iTunes movie announcement
Movie industry insiders have confirmed published reports that Apple will deliver download sales of movies from Disney, but other major studios will be nowhere to be found.
Major movie studios—with the exception of Disney, whose board of directors Apple CEO Steve Jobs now sits on following Disney's purchase of Pixar earlier this year—have long been reluctant to surrender their digital downloads to Apple by allowing purchases through the iTunes Store.
Now, sources say, Apple is betting that offering movie purchases from Disney and possibly other, smaller studios will convince the other major studios that their disillusionment over Apple's terms is simply leaving money on the table.

Whether this means that DivX is on its way to becoming accepted by movie studios as a way to release movie downloads online remains to be seen, but DivXNetworks continuing work with the movie studios on their DRM design seems to have paid off.

MacNN | Wal-Mart threatens studios over iTunes
A dark tide appears to be looming over digital movie downloads, as word came today that retailer colossus Wal-Mart has issued warnings of retaliation to some of Hollywood's key players, should they elect to sell movies through Apple's iTunes service.
Hollywood studio executives say Wal-Mart has threatened to strike back if they go into business with Apple, and though the Cupertino-based company is currently offering movies exclusively from Disney studios, other players in the movie industry want to follow in Disney's footsteps.
Hollywood studios don't wish to upset their largest sales outlet -- Wal-Mart -- just prior to the holiday shopping season, which is expected to rake in about $5 billion in DVD sales in the fourth quarter.
