Litchfield County Times - Major Victory For Lauretano
Trooper Lauretano raised concerns within the department that the crime squad had violated guidelines pertaining to interrogation of minors by not recording the interview, by not allowing the boy's mother to be present at the interview and by interviewing the boy too many times and for too long.
The mother's complaint prompted an internal affairs investigation that, instead of implicating the detectives on the major crime squad, was highly critical of Trooper Lauretano's initial investigation of the rape.
The trooper wanted to respond that he was being made a scapegoat for the major crime squad's mishandling of the rape case, but the State Police's restrictive media policy prohibited him from doing so.
