Pistol MAKARYCH :: Makarov Pistol History
Today Makarov is the only pistol in the world subjected to a “comprehensive conditions” factory testing where the gun is consecutively tested in a room having high concentration of airborne dust particles, then under simulated rain, then wiped dry and yet again tested in the dust-room.
Although Makarov PM was never particularly popular outside Russia, it has been adopted as standard military issue firearm in 12 countries, including former Soviet block nations, China and a number of developing countries.
In 1997, a larger-capacity version of Makarov along with an improved version of the cartridge with a higher muzzle velocity (designated as PBM 9x18 mm) were developed in an apparent attempt to improve the PM’s chances against targets protected by body armor.

The Makarov PM was designed by Nikolai Makarov to replace the older, unreliable, and clunky TT-33 that had been the official sidearm of the Soviet military in years past.
Makarov decided to design the weapon to use this caliber instead of the already existing one because it was slightly more powerful than the existing caliber and was the most powerful caliber of ammunition that can be used with the Makarov's blowback design.
The Makarov remained the official sidearm of the Soviet armed forces until the collapse of the Soviet Union.

 Makarov PM Information
The Makarov PM is a semi-automatic pistol which was designed in the late 1940s by Russian firearms designer Nikolai Fyodorovich Makarov.
The Makarov is relatively heavy for its small size, another desirable attribute for a blowback pistol, as a heavy slide provides greater inertia against the force of the blast, reducing felt recoil or "kick" of the 9x18 mm round.
The Makarov's magazine release location is common with that of many European pistols, being located on the heel or "butt" of the handgrip.
