 Sound
The characteristics of sound are frequency, wavelength, amplitude and velocity.
A sound wave is usually represented graphically by a wavy, horizontal line; the upper part of the wave (the crest) indicates a compression and the lower part (the trough) indicates a rarefaction.
In sound waves parts of matter (molecules or groups of molecules) move in a direction of the spreading of the disturbance (as opposite to transversal waves).

 Sound is a Mechanical Wave
Since a sound wave is a disturbance which is transported through a medium via the mechanism of particle interaction, a sound wave is characterized as a mechanical wave.
If the sound wave is moving through air, then as one air particle is displaced from its equilibrium position, it exerts a push or pull on its nearest neighbors, causing them to be displaced from their equilibrium position.
Sound is a wave which is created by vibrating objects and propagated through a medium from one location to another.

 Sound
Sound waves are mechanical, compression waves which are in general longitudinal in nature - meaning that the particles vibrate parallel to the direction of the wave's velocity.
If only a single disturbance creates a sound wave, such as a ball crashing into a bat, or a tree falling in a forest, that disturbance is not repetitive and does not result in a periodic wave, it would instead be called a pulse.
A sound's frequency is totally dependent on the motion of the source creating it -- that is, frequency is independent of the medium through which the sound travels.

The amplitude of a sound wave is proportional to the maximum distance a vibrating particle is displaced from rest.
To the human ear, an increase in frequency is perceived as a higher pitched sound, while an increase in amplitude is perceived as a louder sound.

Sound Waves - Succeed in Physical Science
Sound can also be created by vibrating an object in a liquid such as water or in a solid such as iron.
Since the velocity of sound is approximately the same for all wavelengths, frequency is often used to better describe the effects of the different wavelengths.

Use sounds like the swamp sounds from outside.uax, or crazy stuff like a churchbell, then give it a very low pitch, between 8 and 16 (depends a bit on the sound of course, sometimes it should be lower or higher) and a big radius- say 192, and a high volume- 224 or so.
These uses of sound are just plain boring: they are always the same sounds you are hearing, you can barely hear them, and they are all on such predictable places.
Use sounds with high volume and low radius for detail work, a volume of 230 and radius 8-24 (all depends on the sound), can give cool effect for instance, certainly for the people with 3D sound.

All of us have read ineffective poems where the rhymes sounded like "the cat sat on the mat" and we felt like we were being forced into a box that felt both unnatural and unnerving.
This means that repeated sounds cohere the poem in much the same way that repeated rhythms do.
The other major matters of sound that have yet to be discussed but are just as important are assonance, consonance, and alliteration.
