		Makkal Tamil Desam Katchi (People's Tamil Land Party, in Tamil: மக்கள் தமிழ் தேசம் கட்சி), generally just called Makkal Tamil Desam, a political party in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
		MTD has its base amongst the Yadava caste in the southern parts of the state.
		In the 2004 MTD took part in the People's Alliance, the third front in Tamil Nadu together with Janata Dal (United), Puthiya Tamizhagam and the Dalit Panthers of India.

		Chidambaram, one of the founders of the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) and a former Union Finance Minister, revolted against the party's decision to align with the AIADMK led by former Chief Minister Jayalalitha and formed the Tamil Maanila Congress Democr atic Front (TMCDF).

	MTD unfazed by Vijayakanth's party
		Addressing the presspersons on the sidelines of a party workers meet convened to prepare the ground for a district level conference here, Kannappan said party alliances should not be formed for elections, but have to be based on ideological grounds.
		So far 12 district conferences were held and through such meets, he had the opportunity to interact with 12 lakh workers of his party and the MTD was strong in 184 Assembly constituencies, he said.
		Stating his party would fight the problems of Tamils, he said training will be given to workers to take up issues affecting the pubic.
