Malacca Town (Malay: Bandar Melaka) is the capital of the Malaysian state of Malacca.
It was the capital of the Malaccan Sultanate and the center of the Malay world in the 15th and the 16th century before it fell to the Portuguese in 1511.
To reach Malacca town through the North-South highway, one have to take a detour from the town of Ayer Keroh and travel south through the Ayer Keroh Road, while to reach Muar, which is 40 km from the Malacca Town itself, one have to travel by Jalan Ujong Pasir.

I was quite happy to stay at Malacca Town Holiday Lodge I (yes, there is a sequel, II, just up the road), in a really nice and clean room, shared bath, for 12 ringgit per night.
Malacca is at about 2 degrees North, so I had a tough day walking around wearing jeans and a sweater (now I know where that name came from) while I waited for my laundry to be done.
Malacca has been a very important place to control, because of its strategic position for the trade between east and west by boat.
