Malapatan is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Sarangani, Philippines.
Malapatan is bounded on the west by Sarangani Bay, on the east by Davao del Sur, on the north by Alabel, and on the south by Glan.
The economy of Malapatan is largely based on agriculture with a high level production of copra (dried coconut meat).

Sarangani is surrounded by the Celebes Sea, Sarangani Bay, and the provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Davao del Sur.
Two percent of the total forestland figure is croplands and coco estate distributed throughout the municipalities while Glan, Maitum, and Malapatan are known for their vast coconut plantations.

COTABATO CITY ­- At least 15,000 civilian volunteers were mobilized Saturday to augment police and military forces in tracking down in Malapatan, Sarangani Indonesian national Fathur Roman Al-Ghozi of the Jemaah Islamiyah and two Abu Sayyaf members who escaped Monday last week from a tightly-secured detention center in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
On Friday, rumors were rife that Al-Ghozi had been captured in the General Santos-Sarangani area but Superintendent Willy Dangane, Sarangani police director, said no such capture was made.
Dangane said he is closely working hand-in-hand with members of the Special Forces Battalion and local officials of Malapatan in their efforts to hunt down the escapees.
