NYS Thruway: About Us: The Governor Malcolm Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge Fact Book
In 1994, the bridge was rededicated as the Governor Malcolm Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge in honor of the former New York Governor.
One of the largest bridges in the United States, the three-mile-long Governor Malcolm Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge carries the New York Thruway's mainline across the historic Tappan Zee Section of the Hudson River, about 13 miles north of New York City.
An Act approved by the Legislature and signed by the Governor on February 28, 1956, officially named the structure the “Tappan Zee Bridge.” In pre-colonial days, this area was the home of the Tappan tribe of Indians; “zee” (sea) is the Dutch name for open expanse of water.

 New York's Deadly Cigarette Tax
New York Governor Malcolm Wilson embraced that proposal and said, "One major incentive to organized crime is the high New York City cigarette taxes, piled on top of the state tax, which have made that city the promised land for cigarette bootleggers."
The recent rise in New York's cigarette-related crime is no surprise after looking at the bloody history of the city's illicit cigarette trade in my recent Cato Institute study.
The lessons learned from New York's tax-induced crime wave were short-lived.

Given that the new crossing would be expected to last at least for the next 50 years, and given the relative shortage of east-west capacity in Westchester County, such a crossing should be constructed not only with rail, but also with additional highway lane capacity.

APS Observer - Malcolm in the Middle
"When the [New York] Times did a piece on Dan Gilbert and affective forecasting, they said here's Dan Gilbert, here's what affective forecasting is, and that's the piece," Finder said.
"People are bad at forecasting their emotions — at appreciating how well, under most circumstances, they will recover," he writes, bringing in evidence from eight psychologists, including Daniel Gilbert and Timothy Wilson.
Gilbert and Wilson had found that people who barely missed a subway felt less regret than those who were asked how they thought they would feel if they barely missed a subway.

 8. The Union Label - NYSUT History
Carey's victory over Malcolm Wilson gave members around the state a crash course in the value of unified political action.
It was a gutsy move - Carey was a little known New York City congressman - but a majority of the NYSUT Board voted to endorse Carey based on his congressional voting record.
Over the objections of many, the two-year-old union first tossed its hat into the political ring in 1974 when it endorsed Hugh Carey for New York state governor.

 Alibris: Dawn Powell
Dawn Powell's incomparable diaries provide a tough-minded, witty, courageous account of her days in New York City, when she was trying to succeed as a writer, cope with her difficult son, and remain a vital part of the city's literary milieu.
Dawn Powell's correspondents included Malcolm Lowry, John Dos Passos, and Edmund Wilson, and her letters are as brilliant, witty, and just plain fun to read as her novels.
Set in a small Ohio town like the one in which Dawn Powell grew up, this is the story of a friendship between the wife of a shoemaker and the music teacher at the local high school, both of whom feel that they were cheated by life.

Soul Plane Movie Review - Soul Plane Movie Trailer - The Boston Globe
Written by Chuck Wilson and Bo Zenga and directed by Jessy Terrero, the movie is predicated on unkempt, uncouth misbehavior, centered around the airline's maiden flight from Los Angeles to New York City.
The movie sets up a few good gags: The plane leaves from Terminal X (as in Malcolm), which is a vast mall that includes a basketball court and a massive dollar store.
"Soul Plane" is sometimes outrageous (every single scene in low class is hilarious) but frequently saddening: The people in first class are as ghetto as the ones in coach.
