Malherbe joined the faculty at Abilene Christian in September of 1963 as an associate professor of Bible, specializing in New Testament and the Greek philosophical and religious background to early Christianity.
While at ACU, Malherbe and Dr. Everett Ferguson were chosen to prepare a translation of "The Life of Moses" by Gregory of Nyssa, a work not previously translated from Greek for publication in the "Ancient Christian Writers" series.
