Some Malibu residents say they are worried about a specific provision within the Malibu Creek State Park Preliminary General Plan that mentions the implementation of a mountain lion breeding program.
The document later states that if "determined scientifically feasible and viable, breeding and reintroduction programs will be implemented for animals of sensitive or threatened species." While the terms "mountain lion" and "breeding program" are never in the same sentence together, the species is currently being closely monitored via tracking collars.
In Malibu, developer Brian Sweeney was granted a permit to kill a male cougar, which had killed several of his goats on land he owns between Pepperdine University and Malibu Creek State Park in early December.

State Parks officials have declared false the allegations made by local residents in a Jan. 15 article in The Malibu Times that the Malibu Creek State Park Preliminary General Plan involves a provision to breed mountain lions in the Santa Monica Mountains.
The National Park Service, in conjunction with California State Parks and the Nature Conservancy, is currently conducting an ongoing study in order to better understand mountain lion behavior.
As far as the general plan is concerned, state park officials are currently in the process of reviewing public comments.

I, and numerous other families, took the high road mainly because all of the winter rains had caused the creek to rise over the top of the western bridge.

During wet winters Malibu Lake smells like a sewer, which it is. The water is green for a reason, and I wouldn't swim in it, drink it, or eat any fish caught from it.
