King Malietoa was the world’s third-longest-serving sovereign, after King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, who has reigned since 1946, and Queen Elizabeth II of Britain, who ascended to the throne in 1952.
Samoa is a group of islands in the South Pacific about halfway between Hawaii and New Zealand that is home to 200,000 people.
