A Liberal Democrat councillor has condemned the demolition yesterday of the The old Smithy at Malin Bridge.
The smithy is one of the oldest buildings in Sheffield - with parts of it surviving from before the Dale Dyke Flood of 1864.
Although not a listed building, and therefore without that statutory protection, it's status as one of the city's historic buildings should have protected it from demolition.

Once past the Malin Bridge terminus, take the next left onto the Rivelin Valley road - this is still the A6101.
If you're not sure but fancy an explore: bear right at the junction, descend, over the bridge (hairpin right) then after the left curve, turn left and go up the side of the hill on the footpath from SK 266872.
Keep following the stream, past the narrow wooden bridge, then continue up the left side until the next bridge (also narrow), then up the cobbled track, hairpin right then turn sharp left and up the valley side to the gate onto the A625 (SK 262805).
