Once we got back to Centro Mallqui, I x-rayed the pot and found that there was a fetus inside it, and also another pot.
We were at Centro Mallqui for over a week and x-rayed over 100 mummies, pots, and artifacts.

Research at Centro Mallqui, a vital center for mummy studies, has been delayed in the aftermath of a destructive earthquake.
Centro Mallqui (mallqui means "mummy"in the Quechua language) is an important archaeological study center for mummies of the Precolumbian Chiribaya people who lived in this region about A.D. 1000 to 1400.
The head of Centro Mallqui, Sonia Guillén, had begun a program for radiology students and scientists from the United States to participate in eight one-week programs of excavation and X-ray analysis.

In Quechua, the language of the Inka aristocracy, the words mean "cloud people," a fitting name for a culture that thrived on cloud-cloaked mountaintops.
Archaeologists from the Centro Mallqui-the Bioanthropology Foundation Peru, began salvage operations at the site in August of 1997.
The more than 200 bodies from the site afford a rare opportunity to study the health and pathologies, demographic profiles, causes of death, DNA, and physical attributes of these people during the period of the Inka conquest.

A recently-excavated tomb in Ilo, Peru, headquarters to Centro Mallqui, reveals a vibrant-colored pottery piece held by A-B Tech Radiography student Debra Anglin (left).
A research project written by a first-year A-B Tech student chosen for an elite mummy expedition this summer will be the subject of an ongoing study at Centro Mallqui: The BioAnthropology Institute of Peru where anthropologists are excavating an ancient civilization.
The remains and other buried artifacts of over 500 mummies have been stored at Centro Mallqui, which is located in Ilo, Peru and was the subject of a National Geographic documentary and has been featured on Good Morning America and the Discovery Channel.

Confieso que supo captar mi interés al referir que la mayoría de los objetos de la colección del Centro provenían de entierros de una cultura cuya vinculación al mar era notoria.
Lo que vi en el Centro Mallqui sobrepasó mis expectativas pues además de descubrir la cultura Chiribaya, encontré testimonios de un interesante proceso náutico que se estaba llevando a cabo en esa parte del litoral sur andino: la transformación de balsas a botes.
La intención de este trabajo es compartir con ustedes mis apreciaciones sobre este proceso, a la luz de las evidencias aportadas por el material del Centro Mallqui, y complementadas con piezas del Museo Arqueológico de El Agarrobal, Ilo, y el Museo Arqueológico de la Universidad del Norte, Arica.

Sonia Guillén of the Centro Mallqui and from three dimensional (3-D) imaging applied to a forensic case by Drs.
In fact, the idea of applying this kind of analysis grew out of a project designed to develop 3-D imaging for jury trials.
