Malolos is the historical site of the constitutional convention of 1898 that lead to the establishment of the First Philippine Republic, the first republic in Asia, lead by Emilio Aguinaldo.
Malolos served as the capital of the short-lived republic from 1898-1899.

Edil Alarma, head of four confederated urban-poor associations in the city, told The Manila Times on Sunday that they are now in the process of applying for a community mortgage program that will help them finance their transfer to Barangay Balayong, a rebel-infested village in the eighties.
Alarma said that the increase of informal settlers along the railtracks was due to the real estate boom in the city in the nineties when subdivisions were established and required more manual workers.

The state-of-the-art steel bridging materials used were supplied by Mabey and Jonhson Ltd. (MandJ) of the United Kingdom (UK), the same and lone supplier of the widely-used Compact 200 Bridge being built at a rate of three bridges per week throughout the Philippines.
This is also a testament to the present DPWH leadership’s thrust of utilizing modern technology in building infrastructure in the shortest time possible.

Domingo designated City Information Officer Juvic Degala as head of the task force, whose members include representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, City Engineering Office and the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Domingo told newsmen that the city government is working for amendments to the present ordinance on these establishments to give it more teeth and prevent flagrant violations, including the time limit of operations, which disallows 24-hour operations.

City Legal Officer Melchor Quitain said the city government filed the motion for reconsideration last week before the 23rd Division of the Court of Appeals based in Cagayan de Oro City.
Quitain said the city government is maintaining that it has the prerogative to assign employees to positions where they could serve public interest at best.

When the Malolos Congress is remembered and eulogized each year, we are reminded that it was this body that ratified the Declaration of Independence from Spain made on June 12, 1898 in Cavite province and that it drafted and adopted what our textbooks describe as the Malolos Constitution.
Originally built as the summer residence of the US high commissioner, it was completed in 1940 and was only used for a year because it was then taken over by the Japanese high command in the Philippines.
Now that I have embarked on research to determine whether the table in the Central Bank is indeed the one on which the Malolos Constitution was drafted, signed and adopted, I have come across a reference in La Senda del Sacrificio, the memoirs of Gen. Jose Alejandrino, regarding voting in the Malolos Congress.

MALOLOS CITY - Bulacan officials bat for the old system of putting security barricades on roads that crossed the abandoned Philippine National Railways (PNR) tracks when the NorthRail project is completed, but some officials say it is not feasible.
Board Member Warlito Trinidad told The Manila Times on Thursday that the best way to keep the roads open for vehicles is to adapt the old system of putting security barricades on the roads every time a train passes.
He said that there are at least eight roads that crossed the rail tracks in Malolos City alone and they will build elevated tracks on it to keep vehicular traffic flow.

De Castro also said that clearing the 37.2 kilometers stretch from Caloocan to Malolos is a big task but the government has done it in one year time.
The clearing, according to the Vice President, involved the relocation of some 20,000 squatter families, of which 12,878 were in Bulacan, and the dismantling of some 15,000 residential and commercial structures that invaded the abandoned Philippine National Railways (PNR) right of way years before the NorthRail relocation started.

A team of media people inspected the PNR tracks last Saturday in Malolos City and discovered that they were still occupied by permanent concrete illegal structures, including two new big commercial establishments and another big commercial apartment still under construction.
Still blocking the Northrail Project are two big commercial establishments squatting on the former PNR tracks and close to the McArthur Highway in Malolos City.
The big commercial establishment near the Malolos crossing was illegally constructed without the necessary building permit but only through a verbal go-signal by deposed President Estrada's son who is a "compadre" of the owner.
