The Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) are a group of islands in the south Atlantic.
War casualties in the 1982 conflict totalled 655 Argentine soldiers, and 236 British soldiers.

The Rise of Militant : The Falklands/Malvinas War
In 1982 the Falklands War broke out, seemingly as a bolt from the blue which was to have a decisive effect on events in Britain.
On an historical point: Lenin himself explained in 1921 that the slogan of "a civil war of revolutionary defeatism" was a slogan for the core of party activists to draw a clear line of distinction between traitors who had supported the war in 1914 and genuine Marxism.
While they would be duty bound to oppose the war, pointing to the real aims of the Junta, at the same time once the war had begun the Argentine Marxists would have stood for the full mobilisation of the working class on a clear anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist programme.

Reply to Luis Oviedo - Part Three - The Malvinas: Marxism and War   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
For Socialist Appeal, the Malvinas are British and not a colonial occupied territory.
The war was a reactionary, imperialist war on the part of Britain, and the duty of the British Marxists was therefore to oppose their own bourgeoisie.
Unfortunately, at the time of the Malvinas war, many Argentine Marxists allowed themselves to be carried away by the prevailing mood in society – a mood of patriotic intoxication that was deliberately whipped up by the Junta for its own ends.

Argentina Finally Recognizes Veterans of Falklands War - by Marcela Valente
The number of Argentine soldiers who lost their lives during the conflict has now been almost matched by the number who have died since the end of the war, due to the physical and psychological damage that veterans have been forced to confront without adequate support from the government.
Veterans of the war over the islands in Argentina first began to receive a monthly government pension of 400 pesos (equivalent to $400 at the time, but now the equivalent of just $134) in 1992, or ten years after the end of the conflict.
Statistics from the Federation of Malvinas War Veterans point to 649 Argentine and 250 British casualties during the conflict.

LaRouche on Malvinas, by Lyndon H. LaRouche, Jr. (Apr. 18, 1996)
The Malvinas, which the British occupiers named the "Falkland Islands," had been the lawful territory of Argentina at the time the U.S.A.'s Monroe Doctrine was adopted, and were implicitly the lawful claim of Argentina under sundry treaties still in force at the time of that nation's relevant 1982 actions.
Argentina's occupation of the Malvinas was provoked by a medley of duplicity, by the British monarchy and complicit agents of that monarchy inside the government of the United States.
To similar effect, the active support for the British 1982 war against Argentina, by the U.S.A., and others, was a step toward establishing the UNO as "The World Government," through a later concoction of the same, deplorable Mrs.

 Malvinas War Tests Leftists
For Marxist revolutionaries, the united front of imperialism was the decisive issue in the war and meant that we stood for the defeat of Britain and the military defense of Argentine forces.
The Malvinas Islands symbolically represent this relationship, which is why the Argentine people have always included the question in anti-imperialist outbreaks and rallied behind the military effort of a government that is so despised.
The point of the war was not empty islands but the need for imperialism united to crush the oppressed and exploited peoples of the world.

EconPapers: Reassessing the Fighting Performance of Conscript Soldiers during the Malvinas/Falklands War (1982)
For any army, fighting effectiveness is not only influenced by the degree of psychological cohesion among soldiers and officers, but also by the organizational culture of each particular service unit towards the preparation for war and the waging of the conflict itself.
In this war, two different types of armies confronted one another: the British army, a professional and all volunteer force, and the Argentine army constituted principally of conscripted soldiers.
By focusing upon these units and their effectiveness, a rather new picture of the Malvinas War comes to light that differs quite substantially from those drawn in the immediate aftermath of the war itself.
