Mammoth Records - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Founded in 1989 in Carborro, NC, Mammoth Records was one of the premiere independent record labels of the 1990s.
The label went from a stand alone company to being a part of Atlantic Records in 1993.
Faires was fired in 1999 along with most of the entire staff and the label was re-built with new president Rob Seiendberg.

Mammoth City Messengers Volume I is the first CD in a series of comic books and albums that seeks to fill the void in the CBA marketplace between younger kids and teenage students.
Mammoth City Messengers was conceived by Christian music veteran Matt Bronlewee (Jars of Clay, Rebecca St. James, dc talk and TAIT) and newcomer Jeremy Bose who co-produced the project.
The voices of the Mammoth City Messengers are brought to life through a group of talented tweens who also provide the vocals for the cutting–edge songs included on the CD as well as the radio series heard on Christian radio stations throughout the country in early 2004.

CONNECT - Los Lobos,  The Ride
Not counting compilations and live recordings, The Ride is the 11th album by East Los Angelinos Los Lobos.
Ultimately, with the possible exception of "Kitate," with Waits and Gonzales, which feels overindulgent and directionless, this record comes off like a dream, full of strength, vision, warmth, rhythms, textures, and a coming together of all of Los Lobos' various adventures in a solid coat of many colors.
This is the culmination of 30 years, and as such, it is an album that pays tribute as well as points to the next, and walks the narrow path between playful adventurousness and tuneful accessibility with ragged elegance and swaggering confidence.

 Walt Disney Records - History
Recorded by Frank Luther and his orchestra in November 1933, the music was derived from the popular Mickey Mouse and Silly Symphony cartoons, including "In a Silly Symphony," "Dance of the Bogey Man," "Mickey Mouse and Minnie's in Town," and "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?"
In 1940 RCA Victor released an album described as "recorded from the original soundtrack of the Walt Disney Production 'Pinocchio.'" This is the first time the phrase "original soundtrack" was used to refer to a commercially available movie recording.
The record earned platinum sales awards (more than a million units) in the U.S. and Canada, and similar sales were recognized in such far-flung markets as Portugal and Australia.

Disney executives are hoping Mammoth will provide a needed shot in the arm for the company's music group, which includes Hollywood Records and a new, and as yet unnamed, Nashville label, aimed at the country market.
Hollywood Records, which releases a variety of albums from rap to alternative to heavy metal, has failed to produce a hit.
"It's unlikely Mammoth is big enough to have any significant impact on overall Disney operations, but it's beneficial to have one more arrow in their quiver," he said.

The Independent Weekly: The last days of Mammoth
While Mammoth was sometimes seen as a "woolly bully" by bands--who, in order to release a record, rarely saw any money up front and signed multialbum deals giving up their publishing for peanuts--Mammoth was, undeniably, a successful business.
Mammoth was an oddity in the shark-infested waters of the music industry.
Mammoth, a homegrown company, was now forced to hire career radio promoters and industry people to work "hit"-oriented projects, often at salaries far exceeding those of longtime employees who'd grown with the company.

Bar/None Records: Juliana Hatfield / Do Not Disturb
Since 1992 when she stepped out from the ground-breaking Blake Babies, a Boston band she founded with other students from the Berklee School of Music, Juliana Hatfield has plowed her own path through musical trends, through the folly of fashion and around the cult of personality which surrounds other seminal songwriters of her generation.
After the success of her critically-acclaimed Hey Babe, released on Mammoth Records and the biggest independent success that year, Juliana joined the roster at Atlantic Records and shortly afterward set to work on Become What You Are, produced by Scott Litt (REM, Indigo Girls).
This time producing herself, she's adapted an eclectic approach to song writing and a more casual style of recording, ducking into the studio when she can and recording just a few songs at a time to keep abreast of her prolific output.

It was just last year that Carrboro's Mammoth Records--the nationally recognized record label that launched the career of the likes of Juliana Hatfield, Joe Henry and our own Squirrel Nut Zippers--closed its local offices.
For former Mammoth execs Steve Balcom (vice president), Josh Wittman (head of marketing) and Lane Wurster (creative director), the answer was to start from scratch by forming their own marketing team, named--not surprisingly--The Splinter Group.
Even before Mammoth had closed its doors at the Carrboro Broad Street location, the three were putting out tentative feelers in the community and looking for a space, envisioning a company that would combine the youth-culture attitude of a record label with the marketing savvy of an edgy ad agency.
