"Man of the Year" is based on Dirk Shafer's experiences as a Playgirl model--personally, I'd love to know just how much of the movie was based on real events; the movie is so skillfully done, it's difficult to tell.
It has a subtle, intelligent humor all its own, and is, at times, quite touching (something other mockumentaries never get near).

Time magazine is considering making Osama Bin Laden the Man of the Year and putting him on the cover of the magazine.
Although it is often assigned to people who have achieved significant political, military, or scientific accomplishments we would consider an overall benefit to mankind, the designation is not technically an "honor" or an "award," nor is it something bestowed as praise for good works.
It is an inescapable fact of life that the bad, the evil, and the notorious often have a great deal influence on world affairs, and Time's annual "Man of the Year" selection is simply an acknowledgement of the person they perceive to have been that year's most influential individual, whatever the nature of that influence.

Documents filed with regulators on Feb. 2 and Feb. 5 indicated that Bezos - named Time magazine's 2000 Man of the Year for his dotcom ventures - intended to sell 800,000 shares of Amazon stock worth roughly $12 million.
A week earlier, Amazon executives received an advance copy of a research report compiled by Lehman Brothers that questioned the company's ability to continue operating through 2001.
Bill Curry, a spokesman for the Internet retailer, said Bezos had sold the stock in an effort to generate capital and diversify his holdings and that it had nothing to do with the Lehman report.

To do the obvious thing and recognize 2004 as a year of Bush would be in some way to capitulate to the obvious center of gravity of American sentiment, and the left would rather talk insanely about secession than capitulate.
