As a bit of unintended folklore, the term lirs (which hitherto, had no English language meaning) is similar to the Celtic term "Manannan mac Lir" --- a Celtic god of the sea.
Lir is associated with the oceans and seas that embrace the ancient Celtic land masses of Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, but especially the central "Isle of Man." The national symbol of the Isle of Man, by a celestial coincidence, is a three-legged design denoting a solar wheel (rays of the sun).
