Manawatu is a district in the Manawatu-Wanganui region in the North Island of New Zealand.
Located north of Wellington, the district stretches from slightly north of the settlement of Himatangi in the south to just south of Mangaweka in the north, and from the Rangitikei River to the summit of the Tararua Ranges.
The population of the district is approximately 27,500.

District Civil Defence controller Richard Kirby said the supply system was still struggling to meet demand and the level at the Fraser Drive reservoir was fluctuating from empty to about nine percent.
He said the storm that swept through the district on Saturday night had resulted in a number of calls to the emergency operations centre, mainly regarding trees and branches that had been blown down across roads and properties.
The district is still under a state of emergency because of the regional declaration by the Horizons Regional Council last week.

Real investment in our district needs to take a much longer time-frame with lower immediate profit margins, but much more long term benefits to the community, the infrastructure (in the broadest sense), jobs that will stay here, projects that will lead to improvements in the health and well-being of the residents.
Another very strong message was that the level of income throughout the district cannot support a rate increase.
