The Manding languages are a fairly mutually intelligible group of dialects in West Africa, belonging to the Mande languages.
A traditional collective term for these languages is "N'Ko", after the words meaning "I say"; the N'Ko alphabet is designed to write Manding using a common literary standard comprehensible to speakers of all these varieties.

Since the Manding country is very near Mopti and the Manding swords are often made from a scavenged European blade, it is possible that this one is of Manding origin, but with the European pommel not replaced.
The Manding sabres which are easily recognized with elaborate guardless hilts and decorated scabbards most definitely used European blades, often Solingen but more frequently French sabre blades.
Because of the quality of this sword, wich is far better than my other west-african swords and knifes, I though it HAS to be an all-European sword, but the possibility of a reproduction is to be seriously considered, for all the reasons you have mentionned.

In 1996, a touring group from the Instrumental Ensemble of Mali offered Mamadou the chance to travel to the United States with a group of Manding musicians and cultural authorities.

In addition to the Manding origin of the Mayan term for writing, there are a number Mayan terms that are derived from the Olmec language .
In conclusion, the Manding speaking ancestors of the Olmecs came from the Saharan zone of North Africa (Winters, 1983, 1984c, 1986).

Using the should values from the Manding symbols, to read the La Venta celts I was able to decipher both the celts and other Olmec inscriptions.

My research programme is to prepare an electronic database for the lexicon of three Mandekan (Manding) languages of the Mande group of the Niger-Congo family: (a) Bambara (Bamanankan or Bamanan), (b) Mawukakan (also known as Mawu, Mahou or Mau) and (c) Odienne Jula.
Bambara, considered to be the oldest form of the Manding subgroup, is the bigest and the most studied language of the sub-group; Odienne Jula has the opposite tone patterns of Bambara; and Mawukakan is my own mother tongue within the sub-group.
The Manding languages together are spoken by more than 6 million people spread across the West African countries of Mali, Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire, Burkina-Faso, Senegal, Gambia and Guinea-Bissau.
