However, I'm definately not for mandatory service in any society that goes to war because of a threat to the President's "daddy".
Myself I would be for a mandatory 1-2 year of military service to not only learn how to defend the country if need be but to also learn a trade that would be useful in regular society.
I don't think military service should be universal, because I think there may be a significant percentage who would not respond well to the experience and/or not contribute to the defence of the realm.

Many countries have mandatory service for X amount of months and then you are done, war or not.
If that guy thinks mandatory service will somehow make politicians more reluctant to start wars to "further US interests," he is really naive.
Israel seems to be doing OK with their mandatory military service (also accepts/requires all females and gays to participate)-I surely wouldn't want to be up against them in an armed conflict.
