Mandaue City prosecutor Ferdinand Peque yesterday failed to convince the court to allow the transfer of the 11 persons arrested in a raid on the shabu laboratory from the Mandaue City jail to the police and military stockades to ensure their safety and prevent their escape.
According to him, the city jail was designed only for 150 prisoners, but as of yesterday, the jail has already 490 inmates and is only manned by 18 jail guards and six policemen, who were assigned to help secure the suspects.
Moring confirmed that after the suspects were brought to Mandaue City jail, he received intelligence reports that a drug syndicate is planning to bribe jail guards to free the detainees.
