 Manfred Gerlach Information
Manfred Gerlach (born May 8, 1928) is a former East German politician (LDPD) who acted as Chairman of the Council of State and thus head of state of East Germany from December 6, 1989 to April 5, 1990.
Gerlach's support for more liberalisation and pluralism in East Germany earned him remarkable popularity; popularity which he, however, lost due to his hesitant attitude during the overthrow of East German Communist dictatorship in 1989.
The critics of the former communist regime have described these publications co-authored by former DDR high funcionaries (e.g Gerlach, Gerald Götting, Hans Modrow etc) as whitewashing the SED dictature and working on the image of current Germany by using antifascist rhetoric.

Apparatus for measuring the time between received pulses - Patent 4176337
This multipath propagation has a particularly negative effect in the case of paths which impinge at the surface of water since the sound energy is there reflected virtually without attenuation losses.
3,887,871, issued to Burckhard Aechter and Manfred Gerlach on June 3rd, 1975, there is determined on the envelope of the received pulse signal a reference value R which appears in the case of interference-free reception at a reference time t.sub.1 after the time t.sub.0 of arrival of the leading edge of the received pulse signal.
The occurrence of reference value R results in a reference signal that triggers a monostable multivibrator 6 which is connected to the output of pulse edge detector 5.

This project had been launched in 1943 and progressed at a low level, as for the Jumo 223, since the prime development resources were reserved for the inverted V 12 Jumo 213 with direct gasoline injection, as well as for the Jumo 004 turbojets propelling the Messerschmitt 262 and Arado 234.

Clarification of the mechanism of neuronal injury whereby MPTP is metabolized to reactive MPP+, which is then selectively transported across the neuronal membrane by specific dopamine transporters leading to mitochondrial damage, has encouraged researchers to identify other exogenous or endogenous chemicals which may act in a similar fashion.
Recently, Dr. Manfred Gerlach published research identifying N-methyl-(R)-salsolinol as a possible endogenous MPTP-like neuro-toxin.
The possibility that xenobiotics may act in a fashion similar to MPTP, coupled with the obvious link of Parkinson's disease risk with pesticide exposure, has encouraged research specifically focused on the role of xenobiotics as toxic agents with respect to mitochondrial function.
