Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the south and east, by Sheepshead Bay on the north, and Brighton Beach to the west.

Early Rapid Transit in Brooklyn, 1878 to 1913
Brooklyn suburbs were areas such as Midwood, Bensonhurst, and if you were wealthy and didn't mind a long ride, the ocean areas of Brighton Beach, Manhattan Beach and Coney Island.
As a result, they helped finance new steam railroads to the beach, but because each acted on his own, the steam railroads that "grew up" were disjointed, concentrated in the western and southern portions of Brooklyn, and really weren't built for the rapid transit that we know of today.
New areas of the land would become accessible, and with trains running over the Brooklyn Bridge to Park Row as early as September 1883, now the commerce center of New York would be a shorter ride away for these Brooklynites.

 New York (city)/Brooklyn - Wikitravel
Brooklyn (its name as borough of the city of New York; it is also Kings County, a county of the state of New York), the "Borough of Homes and Churches," is one of the five Boroughs of New York.
Brooklyn is situated on the westernmost point of Long Island and shares a land boundary with Queens which partially encircles Brooklyn to the north, east and south; Manhattan lies across the East River to the west and north of Brooklyn and Staten Island is across the Verrazano Narrows to the southwest.
However, Manhattan is frequently referred to as "the city" by residents of the other boroughs — for example in the phrase "I´m going to the city" — even though Brooklyn and the Bronx are basically cities on their own.

 Manhattan Beach
The last, and very short-lived, piece of the Manhattan Beach puzzle fell into place on June 29, 1878, when the Kings County Central RR (which was leased by the NY and Manhattan Beach) opened for service.
It had been sold to a group which wanted to standard gauge the line and build their own railroad to Manhattan Beach, but due to both bad management and bad luck, the plans never materialized and they were forced to liquidate their holdings in the spring of 1879.
The Brooklyn Rapid Transit (BRT) system had been busily uniting all the various rapid transit lines and in late 1896 a connection between the Fulton St. El and the Brighton line, long and successfully opposed by Corbin, was made which cut into Manhattan Beach revenues.

The Empire State is most famous for New York City, not technically the state capital, but without a doubt one of the most important cities in the country and in the world.
New York State's overall cost of living is 20% above the national average, with housing costs bearing the brunt of it at 40% above the average.
New York City is the main culprit of these high numbers; it's difficult to find affordable apartments for rent in the city, especially in popular boroughs Manhattan and Brooklyn, unless you're lucky enough to have a high-paying job, independent wealth or multiple roommates willing to squish in to tiny studio apartments.
