		Albay is also the region's principal transshipment point with its ports: Tabaco International, Legazpi National, Pio Duran Provincial, and the Pantao Regional Port (under construction in 2003).
		Most of Albay is located on mainland Bicol Peninsula and it has four major islands to the east: Rapu-Rapu, Batan (part of Rapu-Rapu), Cagraray (part of Bacacay), and San Miguel (part of Tabaco City).
		Albay and its surrounding areas were known as Ibalon when Juan de Salcedo and 120 soldiers explored it in 1573.

		Found along the shores of Buthan beach at Sto Domingo, Albay, this galleon relic was wrecked by a strong typhoon on its way to Acapulco and crushed on the reefs of Albay Gulf.
		Albay can be reached from Manila by the country's flag carrier, Philippine Airlines, or by bus, train or special tourist vans, all on daily, regular schedules.

		Residents of Barangay Buragwis, an elevated area across Albay Gulf, reported seeing the "glowing phenomenon" in Pocdol mountain range after a recent earthquake and while Mayon volcano was erupting.
		Vulcanologist Ed Laguerta confirmed that Pocdol mountain range is comprised of dormant volcanoes that had erupted several times in the distant past, and that this information is based on the range's geologic past.
