Kris Manjapra's interests are in German Intellectual History, as well as transnational cultural and intellectual exchange between Central Europe and the Colonial world.
Kris is interested in combining traditional historiography on German thought, with such foci as modernity and anti-modernism, Kultur and Bildung, high and low culture, and the Marxian tradition with themes of postcolonial scholarship, such as displacement, self-authorship, racism and differencing, intellectual decolonization, global space, and resistance literature.
His dissertation deals with the encounter and exchange between Indian anti-colonial intellectuals and votaries of radical German Thought (especially Communism and voelkisch ideology) in 1920 Berlin.
