  Mannes College of Music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Mannes College of Music is a music school located in New York City, in the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Originally called Mannes Music School, it was founded in 1916 by David Mannes, concertmaster of the New York Symphony Orchestra and Clara Damrosch, brother of Walter Damrosch, then conductor of that orchestra.
In 1953 Mannes started offering degrees changed its name to the Mannes College of Music, and it was then that Felix Salzer organized Mannes's signature Techniques of Music program.

There she met David Mannes, a violinist in the New York Symphony Orchestra (also founded by her father and subsequently conducted by her brother Walter), and they were married in 1898.
Mannes also joined her husband in teaching at the Music School Settlement on New York's Lower East Side.
In 1916 she and her husband founded the David Mannes Music School, open to students of all ages and dedicated to the training not only of virtuoso talent but also of the educated amateur and lover of music.

Eugene Lang College is the distinctive liberal arts division of New School University, formerly known as the New School for Social Research.
