Manoa falls is a relatively unknown corner of Oahu which you must definitely not miss.
Manoa Valley also shelters an arboretum, a lovely Chinese graveyard where food is left for the departed, and a wonderful old established neighborhood.
At the end of Manoa Road just past the Paradise Park parking lot on the right, and the entrance to the Lyon Arboretum further on and to the left, is a heavily shaded area of dead end road.

On October 30, 2004, intense rain fell in the Manoa watershed of the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
Streamflow in Waiakeakua Stream, which is a tributary to Manoa Stream, increased from about 190 to more than 1,100 cubic feet per second between 6:45 pm and 7:30 pm on October 30, 2004 (see graph below).
The gage on Manoa Stream at Lowrey Avenue Bridge was destroyed (click here for photo), while the gage on Manoa Stream at Kanewai Field was damaged during the storm.

At the height of the heavy rainfall (radar) around 7 pm, rainfall rates recorded at the gauge at the Manoa Lyon Arboretum, in the upper portion of Manoa Valley, were over 5 inches per hour.
A stream gage operated by the US Geological Survey on Waiakeakua Stream, a tributary of Manoa Stream, detected a surge in flow between 6:45 pm and 7:40 pm in response to the peak rainfall.
Significant damage occurred in Manoa Valley and on the University of Hawaii campus due to Manoa Stream overflowing its banks.
