Manoao is a genus of conifers belonging to the Podocarp family, Podocarpaceae.
Before 1996 it was classified in genus Dacrydium or Lagarostrobos, but has recently been recognized as a distinct genus; many botanists still treat it in Lagarostrobos on the basis that it is not genetically distinct from that genus.
Manoao is a slow-growing evergreen tree which grows to 15 meters in height, in shady, wet areas of New Zealand.

An endemic genus with one species, manoao is a small tree 15 m in height with a straight trunk 1 m in diameter.
When ripe the bluish fl seed is exposed in a fleshy green cup formed by enlargement of the fertile scale.
Manoao occurs in high-rainfall areas throughout the northern half of the North Island and west of the Southern Alps on the South Island.

Younger specimens of manoao form a small conical bush but with age this becomes a small tree with a trunk clear of branches for some distance from the ground.
