Professor Manolis Andronicos of Greece's University of Thessaloniki believed that a skull in his possession, taken from the Royal Tomb of Virginia in Macedonia, was that of King Philip II.
Neave's reconstructed head, showing the injury, convinced Andronicos that the skull was indeed Philips.
Meanwhile, the crumbling skeleton unearthed from the Gordion Mound back in 1957 was still awaiting a conclusive examination to show beyond reasonable doubt that it was King Midas.

 Philip_2 of Macedon
Philip was often passed over in twentieth century scholarship in favor of his more energetic son, Alexander, but recent archeology near Aigai (Vergina), and at other sites within ancient Macedonian territory, have revived interest in the fourth and fifth century kings, Philip in particular.
The work of Manolis Andronicos, in particular, has furthered the field of Macedonian archeology incredibly in the past few decades and inevitably leads to new scholarship on the subject in the areas.
With this new interest in Philip, historians are able to get a better look at the genius of his diplomacy, the innovations in his army, his amazing strategic ability and the impossible situation he was faced with and how he overcame it.

An ancient tomb in northern Greece stirred up excitement when archeologists identified what they claimed were the remains of the father of Alexander the Great.
There is general agreement that the Great Tumulus of Vergina, originally excavated by Greek archaeologist Manolis Andronicos in 1977, was a burial ground for some members of Alexander's royal family.
One tomb almost certainly contains the remains of Alexander's only son, who was murdered at a young age.
