The BKU activists tried to break nakas at three points in Muktsar district and jammed traffic near Maha Bhadar, Mal Katora and Husnar villages but they were not allowed to come near the rail track by the authorities.

MANSA: Mansa police registered a criminal case against Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) general secretary and former Rajya Sabha member Balwinder Singh Bhunder on Sunday, for allegedly assaulting and intimidating a police official on duty.
In a complaint to senior superintendent of police (SSP) Mansa, Sukhchain Singh had alleged that the Akali leader roughed him up and used derogatory words for his caste (Dalit) when he resisted the interference of the leader in the electioneering process on March 9 at booth number 1 at Sardulgarh.
SSP Mansa SS Srivastva told The Times of India that after an inquiry into the allegations found the Akali leader prima facie guilty of the crime, as alleged by the S-I, a case was registered at Sardulgarh police station.

Jacob to drought-affected areas today failed to bring them any relief except an assurance that they would be taken care of by the state government.
However, their hopes were dashed to the ground when General Jacob said the state government would provide seeds of less water-consuming crops to the affected farmers free of cost but kept mum on whether the arrangements for adequate canal water supply would be made or not.
The farmers were also disappointed when the district administration did not allow them to raise any other problem pertaining to other issues on the pretext that the Governor had come here only to see the ground situation in connection with the drought.

Over 100 people are cycling 1,500 kilometres from Dalel Singhwala in Mansa district to New Delhi to protest against bonded labour in India.
Nearly 300 cases of bonded labour from Mansa, logged from 1999 to the present, are pending before the district magistrate, high court and Punjab State Human Rights Commission, Chandigarh; no action has been taken by the authorities on any of them DDVA says.
The District Administration must enforce all of the laws enacted by Parliament and the Supreme Courts pronouncements.

BATHINDA —Even as paddy in huge quantities has started arriving at purchase centres of Muktsar, Faridkot, Mansa, Bathinda, Moga and Ferozepore districts, state and Central procurement agencies have been showing reluctance to purchase the crop in the absence of adequate milling capacity.
On account of non-availability of adequate milling capacity in each district, the procurement agencies had started making plans to shift the procured paddy from such places to those where milling capacity was easily available.
Sources said in Bathinda district the procurement of paddy had been done at about two places though 101 purchase centres in the entire district had been set up.

The Congress has claimed victory in 65-70 per cent of the 12,337 panchayats in Punjab, which went to polls on Monday.
Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said the Congress polled less than 50 per cent votes in only three districts - Mansa, Moga and Nawanshahar - of the 17 in the state.
The party polled the highest 90 per cent votes in Gurdaspur district and lowest 42 per cent in Mansa district, he said.
