The Soho Manufactory was an early factory, opened in Soho, Birmingham, England at grid reference SP051890
The manufactory produced a wide range of goods from buttons, buckles and boxes to japanned ware, and later luxury products such as silverware and ormolu (a type of gilded bronze).
The manufactory was demolished in the middle of the 19th century and the site used for housing.

Later known as the Virginia Manufactory of Arms, the facility would supply much-needed weapons for militia units throughout the state.
By that point, an extensive supply of weapons produced by the armory, supplemented by arms provided by the federal government, rendered the manufacture of additional armaments unnecessary.
However, during its relatively short existence the Virginia Manufactory of Arms was able to produce sufficient arms to equip well the militia of the commonwealth.

Among other splendid presents, the king of France, Louis XV, gave Savonnerie carpets to the Ottoman sultan in 1742; he particularly wanted to impress the sultan with the quality and richness of French carpets, woven on this occasion with borders of gold thread.
The Savonnerie was joined with the Gobelins tapestry manufactory in 1825.
Carpet production continues today, both reproducing older designs and making newly commissioned works designed by contemporary artists.

The first director, Charles Le Brun, orchestrated numerous craftsmen, including tapestry weavers, painters, bronze-workers, furniture-makers, and gold- and silversmiths, who supplied objects exclusively for the king's palaces or as royal gifts.
