If the edifice that houses The Asiatic Society of Bombay seemed like the Parthenon to writer Aldous Huxley, then one can only imagine what the man would have thought about the society's most prized possession, a 14th century manuscript of Dante Alighieri's Divina Comedia in original Italian.
The manuscript bears the signature of its donor, the Hon'ble Mountstuart Elphinstone, who was Governor of Bombay and the President of the Society from 1819-1827.
It is said that only two versions of the manuscript survive, one remains with the Asiatic Society.

Natural Philosophy and Early Physics in the American Philosophical Society Library
The manuscript collections of the American Philosophical Society Library, for one, cling to a small, but growing array of materials for those atavists who insist on the relevance of the past, documenting the development of physics from the late 17th through the early 19th centuries.
Like Morton, Questebrune includes study of the earth and human body within the scope of “physics.” While the Questebrune manuscript was written in Kilkenny, Ireland, it has a distinctly American veneer: by 1784 it had been acquired by the well-known Philadelphia botanist, William Hamilton (d.1824), known as a flaming Loyalist during the American Revolution.
The primary significance of this volume of notes may lie as much in documenting scientific education at Yale at a time when that university was at the forefront in introducing science into the college curriculum.

One distinct advantage of the Leningrad Codex over the ben-Hayyim edition was that the poetic portions were shown in their traditional brickwork layout in the Leningrad manuscript but this was simply not possible in the layout of the Rabbinic Bible where poetry was printed the same way as prose.
The Leningrad Codex is the oldest complete and dated Hebrew Bible manuscript, having been worked up in the year 1008 and according to an end note it was copied in Cairo directly from a master copy worked up by Aaron ben Asher, one of the most famous (and last) of the Massoretic copyists.
The manuscript was acquired somewhere in the Middle East by the Karaite leader Abraham Firkovich, who sold it to the Imperial Library in what was then (and now) St. Petersburg circa 1862.
