		THE town of Mapandan, Pangasinan, and the Local Water Utilities Administration will conduct a public hearing Friday to form a water district in the municipality.
		of Mapandan wrote Administrator Lorenzo H. Jamora that the public hearing was approved by the Sangguniang Bayan as reflected in SB Resolution 148 on April 26, 2006.
		The establishment of new water districts in Pangasinan came through the initiative of Rep. Generoso DC Tulagan.

		Unknown to the present generations, the three heroes in the 'Battle of Dagupan' who historians believed were the ones who sparked the flame of revolution in their own province, later emerged to become governors in different times and climes.
		In her book, "Pangasinan: 1891-1900", Dr. Mendoza-Cortez said after the battle on July 22, 1898, all the Spanish provincial officials surrendered and were taken as prisoners of war.

		The municipality of Mapandan, before it came into existence as a town, was formerly a barrio of Mangaldan.
		At first the town was located in the hilly regions of the south where there used to be many "pandan" a native palm whose leaves will add aroma to the cooked rice if cooked with it.
		This town site later was found unsatisfactory so it was transferred to its present location, the town though its real name is Mapandan is commonly called Balon Bahley (meaning new town) and because of this and its isolation in the Province.
