	Maple bug - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Leptocoris trivittatus) is an insect found primarily on maple and ash trees.
		In the spring, the bugs leave their winter hibernation locations to lay eggs on maple or ash trees (their preference is Manitoba Maple Acer negundo).
		They can also be kept out of the home, to a degree, by putting boric acid and/or diatomaceous earth in places they would gather to enter, as well as by using weather stripping and other means to seal the house better.

	Acer negundo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Manitoba Maple (Acer negundo), as the species is called in Canada, also known as Ash-leaved Maple or (confusingly) Box Elder in the United States, is a species of maple, which occurs throughout most of North America.
		Unlike most other maples (which usually have palmate leaves), it has pinnate leaves with usually five (sometimes three or seven) leaflets, resembling an ash or an elder, hence the two alternative common names; the leaves are 12-25 cm long, with each leaflet 6-10 cm long and 3-7 cm wide.
		Unlike most other maples, the tree is dioecious, so each tree grows only one gender of flower and both a "male" and "female" tree are needed for either to reproduce.

		The values computed by Maple V release 5 on a Mac are slightly different from Maple 7's answers, but also wrong.
		The real clincher, though, is that if one takes Maple's expression for the definite integral and plugs in the values I computed above for the EllipticE and EllipticF functions, the result is 7.277500984, which agrees exactly with the result of computing the definite integral numerically.
		I hope I'm just doing something wrong here, but if not, it's extremely alarming to me that one seems not to be able to rely on Maple correctly to compute the values of fundamental functions, and that bugs of this sort can persist for so many years.

		It was, as mentioned below, simply a bug in MAPLE V R5, not present in R4 (R6 is out, we shall see...).
		However, using Maple command "linsolve", and some fancy footwork of substituting into the solution, this instructor succeeded brilliantly, in all modesty, to program a work-around for the command "kernel", to be available shortly, here on this webpage.
		The error is due to a BUG in Maple V R 5 that was not present in R4 and earlier versions.

		The problem is that you gave Maple a polynomial with integer coefficients, which tells Maple to try to solve the equation with radicals (square roots, cube roots, etc.).
		Maple can also handle systems of both linear and nonlinear equations, but this is a much trickier business because it is harder to plot the equations to understand what is going on, and because there is so much more space in which to get lost in multiple dimensions.
		Maple has another tool that is useful when you have two nonlinear equations in two unknowns.

		At my last residence in South Central Alberta Maple Bugs moved in by the thousands (literally) and could be found in cupboards, drawers, closets, sinks, beds, etc. etc.
		I'm a assuming the bugs return to the nest at night after their perches are no longer warm.

		Maple on Mac may represent a small fraction of all those working with Maple, it is an enduring one.
		Maple technical support has responded to those and I believe that these have been corrected (my personal G3 testing is continuing and will report these to the MUG when they are completed.
		Maple does use the HSV-model when you specify color by a single value (or function), i.e., color=H. In this case Maple fixes the saturation S at 0.9 and the value V at 1, and understands H as a hue.

		If you associate the Maple executable directly with a file name and use that association to start Maple then the current directory is that of the file that was opened, and that seems to be the only place that Maple looks for its.ini file.
		After patching Maple the maple.ini file in the Lib folder was no longer read, but when I moved it to the Maple V Release 5\Update folder it was read no matter how I launched Maple, including as a helper app for Netscape and Internet Explorer.

	Getting help for the LINUX version of Maple
		The Linux version of Maple is supported by SIPB via the linux-help@mit.edu mailing list, at least for questions dealing with issues specific to the Linux implementation.
		This is not a Maple bug, it is a problem with versions of the AFS client that was developed for Linux.
		If Maple can't find the drivers for creating plot windows when using the Linux version of Maple installed locally on a machine, use "chmod a+rx" on all the executable Maple binaries.

		Maple 7 didn't return the error message, but it also didn't return any answer in a reasonable time, so I'm not sure if the bug has been fixed.
		Maple usually runs faster that way when the results are 64 digits.
