No, the Maquoketa river does not have the miles of scenic bluffs of the Upper Iowa, the spirited riffles and bucolic runs of the Yellow, or the volume and swift flow of the Cedar.
Second, the Maquoketa river is not classified as a "meandering river," which means that unlike the Cedar river or portions of the Iowa river, the area up to the high-water mark is not public property.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Iowa
It lies between two great rivers, the Mississippi and the Missouri, the Mississippi forming its eastern boundary and separating it from the States of Illinois and Wisconsin; the Missouri and its chief tributary, the Big Sioux, forming its western boundary, and separating it from the States of Nebraska and South Dakota.
West of the Divide the rivers flow southwesterly into the Missouri and its tributaries, and, as the watershed is near the western boundary of the state, the rivers have shorter courses and a more rapid flow than those of the eastern system.
The soil of the river valleys consists of waste carried down from higher levels, and is known as alluvium; it is the richest soil in the state.

River locations also were highly advantageous, as evidenced by the fact that all towns that became economically successful were both along rivers and attracted a rail line.
Adversely affecting the economy in 1993 was major flooding of the Mississippi River and its tributaries, with millions of dollars of damage sustained in Des Moines, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and Davenport.

We’d dressed well enough to be comfortable but the ice forming on the river was a concern the entire trip.
It felt to me like we were going slower than that due to all the crunching, but the river was swift despite being very shallow (fortunately not so shallow as to make us get out and walk), and our boats and the icebergs were bookin’ right along.
The general consensus was that it was a good thing we were moving at a decent clip and taking a short trip, as the river was freezing fast and the clock was ticking, and a few hours after we got off the water the river would probably be frozen up.
