Mara is a demon from Nifelheim (Nordic mythology's version of Hell) who mainly passes her time causing truble for Keiichi and the Goddesses.
She used to be a close friend of Urd's until Urd had to carry on her duty as a goddess, and Mara as a demon.
However, as the series went on, her status as a bad guy became stronger, and she would do some terrible things, although the concept of her being old friends with the goddesses was never abandonded, as seen on their hot spring trip in volume 10 of manga.
