Maragondon belonged to the corregimiento of Mariveles (now Bataan province) until 1754 when Spanish gevernor General Pedro Manuel de Arandia (1754 — 1759) abolished the politico — military administration and restored Maragondon Cavite Province.
Ternate was seperated from Maragondon on March 31, 1857, under an agreement signed by Tomas de Leon, Felix Nigosa, Pablo de Leon, Florencio Nino Franco and Juan Ramos in behalf of the Ternatenos and by Roman Riego de Dios, Cazinto Riel, Pablo Dino, Eulalio Lizardo, and Francisco Villafranca in behalf of Maragondon.

In the year 1700, seven Merdica Families consisting of about 200 persons were transferred to the Barra de Maragondon from the old Bagumbayan (now Ermita), Manila, to establish their residence there.
Meaning " men of the sea" or "free people" were transferred to Maragondon by the Spanish Authorities because of their frequent brawls with the Tagalogs of Ermita.
In 1856 the alkalde mayor (equivalent to provincial governor) of Cavite ordered the fixing of the boundary between Ternate and Maragondon, giving the former sufficient land for its inhabitants.

Located approximately 85 kilometers southwest of Manila by road, located within Cavite and Batangas rolling mountains, it is situated where the Caraballo Mountains are in the north, Nasugbu, Batangas in the south, Maragondon on the east and the South China Sea on the west.
