Marathon is a town located in the Thunder Bay district in Ontario.
Marathon has a very challenging and scenic 9 hole golf course, world class cross country ski trails, down hill skiing, an indoor swimming pool which is the only one between Thunder Bay, Ontario and Sault Ste.
Marathon's industry was built on pulp milling, but since the mid 1980s have included gold-mining operations.

Marathon, primarily a pulp/paper and mining community is located along the Trans Canada Highway halfway between Thunder Bay and Sault St. Marie on the north shore of the world's largest freshwater lake, Lake Superior.
Due to its relative isolation, Marathon was formerly the site of a POW camp at Angler Creek and Ney Provincial Park during the World Wars.
Pukaskwa National Park is a fifteen minute drive to the east of Marathon, and Neys Provincial Park is situated slightly further to the west.

Ran this marathon as a last minute thing, and was very pleasantly surprised.
