July, 1997, the Marathwada Wakf Board had informed that in Maharashtra, the Wakf Act, 1954 was in force only in the Marathwada region whereas the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950 was in force in the rest of the areas of the State.
“Marathwada Wakf Board, Aurangabad” was constituted in 1960 by the Government of Maharashtra under the provisions of the Central Wakf Act, 1954, to safeguard and protect the Wakf institutions and their properties such as Masjids, Dargahs, Graveyards, Ashoorkhanas, Maqbaras, Idgahs etc. scattered all over the Marathwada regions.
September, 2000, the Marathwada Wakf Board submitted that the local authorities are not cooperating on (i) removal of encroachments (ii) recording entries in 7/12 extracts (iii) payment of laoni amount, and (iv) land acquisition amount.

Marathwada's irrigation backlog was Rs 2401 crore (32.37%) and that of the rest of Maharashtra Rs.934 crore, or 12.59%.
Since Marathwada region has only 8.5% of the available water compared to the state; Pune and Nashik region put together may hardly equal the Vidarbha's share if the west flowing rivers in Konkan are excluded.
