Surer, 48, a veteran Swiss driver with 82 Formula 1 starts, said it felt great to be back in a race car even if it was only a test.
Surer, whose career ended after a rally crash in the 1980s, said the last time he was in a car was a Formula 1 car three years ago.
Surer admitted he was impressed by the engine and compared it to a Formula 1 model.

Behind Senna, Elio de Angelis was third in the second Lotus, while Stefan Johansson and Marc Surer occupied fourth and fifth with the unleashed Alain Prost already in sixth place, just one place short of securing his title.
To demonstrate exactly how close a battle it was, Marc Surer overtook Stefan Johansson for fourth, leaving the Ferrari driver with Alain Prost right under his rearwing.
As Surer sprinted away from Senna, Jacques Laffite managed to overtake the Brazilian in exactly the same place as Surer did a lap before, demoting Senna to fourth place.

Surer was not a paying driver, and he needed cash, so Surer got the boot.
In Detroit, a street race, Surer placed the car 5th on the grid, but by the end of the year most of the real fast cars were using turbo engines, and Arrows was not.
In the beginning, Surer took some time getting used to a more competitive environment, but as the season progressed, he was qualifying consistently well, including many top 10’s in the final half of the year.

The accident cost the life of his co-driver and Surer suffered terrible injuries and burns.

The BMW/March 792 carried Marc Surer to the 1979 European Formula 2 Championship.
Marc began his racing career with BMW as one of three team drivers in the 320i Junior Team, and proved his worth by winning the first race of the 1977 season in Zolder.
Marc went on to race in Formula 1 and today is the team manager for BMW's effort in the German STW Teamcup (Super Touring Car) Championship.

In the course of qualifying there were two major crashes with Alain Prost breaking his wrist when he suffered a suspension failure on his McLaren and Marc Surer doing serious damage to his legs when his ATS went head-on into the barriers at Crowthorne.

On 4 September 2004 the EuroSpeedway in Lausitz was the setting for a gripping race between Andi Feldmann on the Dolmette and racing driver Christina Surer in her Abt Audi AS400.
Because the start of the race had been fixed for 5.00 p.m., and Christina Surer was running on a very tight schedule, there was only a 20-minute time slot in which to run the race – and that included the time needed to get the Dolmette’s multiple engines powered up for the start.
