In Japanese racing March enjoyed three consecutive titles in Formula 2000 at the start of the 1970s and by the mid-1980s was unbeatable with Heroes Racing driver Satoru Nakajima, who won three consecutive Japanese F2 titles.
In Europe Piercarlo Ghinzani gave March its first European title in 1979 and he was followed by Michele Alboreto in 1980 and Mauro Baldi in 1981 but in the 1990s March was swamped by Ralt.
The 1977 season was the final one for March in F1 with Ian Scheckter (Rothmans) and Alex Ribiero (Hollywood) failing to achieve much while Frank Williams ran an older car for Patrick Neve (Belle-Vue) and there were various other private entries in the course of the year.

 The March Story
In 1969 March Engineering was established with the intention to become a racing car production business providing chassis for customers competing in all racing categories.
March moved on to win its first European F3 title in 1979 and had continued success with Michele Alboreto's win in 1980 and Mauro Baldi's win in 1981, as well as finishing first and second in a 813-based car entered by Euroracing in 1982.
He was followed in 1986 by Ivan Capelli and in 1987 by Stefano Modena, both driving Marches, but the arrival of the Reynard chassis in 1988 indicated the withdrawal for March from this class.

Herbert Saffir, a structural engineer who created the five-category system used to describe hurricane strength and warn millions of an approaching storm's danger, died at age 90.
I proposed a challenge to the leadership of the Florida Engineering Society, which I am happy to report, was accepted.
Firms receiving a FICE Engineering Excellence Grand Award are now eligible to participate in a national competition sponsored by the American Council of Engineering Companies.

Civil Engineering: The environmental team Jonnye Keith, Lee Schumann, J.T. Malasri, and Andrew Warren won First Place in the environmental competition at the ASCE Deep South Regional Conference in Oxford, MS (March 25-27, 2004).

Paul Dunbar and Rhonda Lee, chemical engineering at the Paducah Extension Campus have received $40,000 in funding from the Department of Energy for the initial phase of developing secondary batteries based on depleted uranium.
The course was presented to the Division of Rural Constructiona and Environment, Agricultural Engineering Department, Federal University of Vicosa, March 6, 2002.
Engineers Day Open House was nothing short of a resounding success on both the Lexington and Paducah Campuses.

Professor Robert “Tony” Dalrymple (Civil Engineering) was part of a nine-member team sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers in cooperation with the Institution of Civil Engineers that recently toured southern Thailand and the devastation caused by the December 26th tsunami.
The device was designed by biomedical engineering students working with Dr. Allen in the BME senior design class last year, and won top prize in a student design competition last fall during the international meeting of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers’ Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society.
Congratulations to Civil Engineering Ph.D. student, Frank Xu, who was selected as a finalist in the Melosh Competition for his paper, "Computational multiscale homogenization of random media elliptic problems using Fourier Galerkin method." Frank will travel to the campus of RPI to participate in the final Medal competition on April 29, 2005.

The new Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a testament to modern architectural and engineering design, and it could, given the texts and publications from all over the world that it will contain, become a major attraction for cultural and intellectual pursuits to rival its predecessor.
Mamdouh Hamza, P.E., is a professor of soil mechanics and foundation engineering in Egypt at the Suez Canal University and is the chairman and founder of the consulting firm Hamza Associates, of Giza, Egypt.

The Whiting School of Engineering is offering three new programs for students interested in studying and applying engineering principles to contemporary problems in medicine and biology.
Associate professor Lynn Roberts (Geography and Environmental Engineering) was cited for her research in tracking the presence of pharmaceuticals in drinking water, in the January 2003 issue of Discovery magazine.
Her research was listed as number eight of the "Top 100 Science Stories of 2002." Dr. Roberts is leading a team of environmental engineers studying the effects of prescription drug pollution on human and aquatic life.

As an example, everyone working on a system would have the same schedule, would have access to data about interfacing components, would be regularly updated on the intentions of designers of interfacing components, and would be working closely with manufacturing engineers not only to get their feedback, but to help them develop the manufacturing system.
They'd also be working closely with suppliers of parts and components in their system in much the same way they work with people in their own company.
Looking at Toyota and Chrysler's relations with their suppliers, the answer is again "yes," although it's clear that the level of "closeness" between two companies will never be the same as between people coming from two different functions in the same company.
